I went out and threw today. It was drizzling and miserable so I count it a success that I made it out at all. I focused mainly on my flicks, enough so that the skin on the side of my first knuckle where it rubs is a bit raw. I'm happy with my short flicks, even in the rain they were looking pretty sharp. I worked for a bit on getting more spin on the very short flicks for an up-the-line style throw. It definitely still needs work, preferably some time when it's not raining.
My big frustration was my flick huck. When I try to eek out extra yards I tighten up my torso and move it in a way that is actually counterproductive to the throwing mechanics as best as I can tell. I think this is a throwback to my self-taught, pinched elbow, fairly high release flick that was my only throw in high school. If I relax and let my arm move completely independently of my body I throw the same distance with a lot less effort. I understand that some body movement can aid the arm, but for now I'm going to concentrate on hucking without using my body at all, and work to get more wrist/arm snap without forcing it. I think my reliable hucking distance with the flick was about 40 yards. Pitiful.
